Τα κρυπτονομίσματα χρησιμοποιούνται ολοένα και περισσότερο.
Από τις 74 χώρες που περιελήφθησαν στην έρευνα του Statista Global Consumer Survey, οι Νιγηριανοί φαίνεται να προτιμούν περισσότερο τα κρυπτονομίσματα, αφού οι πολίτες απαντούν σε υψηλότερο ποσοστό ότι χρησιμοποιούν ή έχουν στην κατοχή τους κρυπτονομίσματα. Συγκεκριμένα, σχεδόν το 1/3 των Νιγηριανών απάντησε θετικά.
Το υψηλό κόστος αποστολής χρημάτων εκτός συνόρων με τον συμβατικό τρόπο έχει κάνει πολλούς να στραφούν σε τοπικά χρηματιστήρια κρυπτονομισμάτων που απευθύνονται σε εργαζόμενους στο εξωτερικό και τις οικογένειές τους, σύμφωνα με το Bitcoin.com.
Οι Νιγηριανοί χρησιμοποιούν επίσης συχνά τα τηλέφωνά τους για να στέλνουν χρήματα ο ένας στον άλλο ή να πληρώνουν σε καταστήματα. Πρόσφατα, οι επιχειρήσεις στη χώρα προσθέτουν πρόσθετα κρυπτογράφησης στις επιλογές πληρωμής μέσω τηλεφώνου τους, προσθέτοντας έναν άλλο τρόπο με τον οποίο οι Νιγηριανοί μπορούν να χρησιμοποιούν κρυπτογράφηση στην καθημερινή τους ζωή.
