«H σπουδαιότερη βραδιά της μόδας», όπως χαρακτηρίζεται, το Met Gala, μετά την περσινή ακύρωση λόγω της πανδημίας και την αναβολή από τον Μάιο για τον Σεπτέμβριο διοργανώθηκε χθες παρουσία, σχεδιαστών, αστέρων της κινηματογραφικής και μουσικής βιομηχανίας, αθλητών και για πρώτη φορά των μέσων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης.
Το γκαλά πραγματοποιείται κάθε χρόνο με στόχο την οικονομική στήριξη του Ινστιτούτου Κοστουμιών του Μητροπολιτικού Μουσείου της Νέας Υόρκης.
Με το Met Gala 2021 γιορτάστηκαν τα εγκαίνια της νέας έκθεσης του Ινστιτούτου Κοστουμιών με θέμα «In America: A Lexicon of Fashion» (Στην Αμερική: Ένα Λεξικό της Μόδας) και τιμήθηκαν όλοι εκπρόσωποι της αμερικανικής μόδας.

Η έκθεση «Στην Αμερική: Ένα Λεξικό της Μόδας» είναι μέρος αφιερώματος αποτελούμενου από δύο μέρη. Το δεύτερο μέρος που θα εγκαινιαστεί στις 5 Μαΐου 2022 με ένα δεύτερο Met Gala, θα έχει τίτλο «In America: An Anthology of Fashion» (Στην Αμερική: Μία Ανθολογία της Μόδας)
Ο επιμελητής των εκθέσεων Άντριου Μπόλτον επέλεξε το θέμα για δύο λόγους: «Ο κυριότερος ήταν το γεγονός ότι η αμερικανική κοινότητα μόδας μας υποστηρίζει εδώ και 75 χρόνια, πραγματικά από την αρχή του Ινστιτούτου Κοστουμιών, οπότε ήθελα να αναγνωρίσω την υποστήριξή της, καθώς και να υμνήσω και να την αμερικανική μόδα».
«Νομίζω ότι η έμφαση στη δημιουργικότητα με συνείδηση εδραιώθηκε πραγματικά κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας και των κινημάτων κοινωνικής δικαιοσύνης» δήλωσε ο Μπόλτον. «Και έχω εντυπωσιαστεί πραγματικά από τις απαντήσεις των Αμερικανών σχεδιαστών στο κοινωνικό και πολιτικό κλίμα, ιδιαίτερα σε θέματα συμπερίληψης διαφορετικών σωματότυπων και ρευστότητας των φύλων και βρίσκω απλώς το έργο τους πολύ-πολύ-αυτοστοχαστικό. Πραγματικά πιστεύω ότι η αμερικανική μόδα περνά μια Αναγέννηση» εκτίμησε.

Μεταξύ των διάσημων που ξεχώρισαν με τις εμφανίσεις τους ήταν η βραβευμένη ποιήτρια, Αμάντα Γκόρμαν, η οποία έκανε το ντεμπούτο της στο Met Gala και έφτασε στο κόκκινο χαλί φορώντας μία δημιουργία Vera Wang με αναφορές στο Άγαλμα της Ελευθερίας. To μίνι φόρεμα σε μπλε κοβαλτίου είχε ουρά από τούλι και κρύσταλλα Swarovski. Η Αμάντα Γκόρμαν κρατούσε μία τσάντα που μοιάζει βιβλίο με τον στίχο «Give Us Your Lired» από το ποίημα που είναι χαραγμένο στο Άγαλμα της Ελευθερίας, στη Νέα Υόρκη.

Η σταρ των μέσων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης Έμα Τσαμπερλέιν περπάτησε και φωτογραφήθηκε στο κόκκινο χαλί με βραδινό φόρεμα δημιουργία με πούλιες, στρας, ασύμμετρη ουρά και ανοίγματα ακάλυπτη τη μέση και την κοιλιά.
