Ο πλανήτης γνώρισε μια ραγδαία αύξηση στις δαπάνες για στρατιωτικούς εξοπλισμούς το 2018, μια αύξηση στην οποία κυρίαρχο ρόλο έπαιξε η Κίνα και οι ΗΠΑ, στις οποίες πλέον αντιστοιχεί σχεδόν το μισό των παγκόσμιων στρατιωτικών δαπανών, σύμφωνα με νέα μελέτη του Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Οι παγκόσμιες αμυντικές δαπάνες άγγιξαν τα 1,82 τρισ. δολάρια το 2018, κάτι που αποτέλεσε μια αύξηση της τάξεως του 2,6% σε σχέση με την προηγούμενη χρονιά, και το υψηλότερο ποσό από το 1988, την πρώτη χρονιά που αξιόπιστα παγκόσμια δεδομένα ήταν διαθέσιμα, σύμφωνα με τη σουηδική δεξαμενή σκέψης.
Οι ΗΠΑ, που κατέχουν τον τίτλο της χώρας με τις υψηλότερες στρατιωτικές δαπάνες παγκοσμίως, αύξησε ακόμα περισσότερο τις δαπάνες τις, για πρώτη φορά μέσα σε επτά χρόνια, στα 649 δισ. δολάρια το 2018. Οι ΗΠΑ ξοδεύουν για την άμυνά τους το 2018 όσο και οι οκτώ χώρες της λίστας μαζί, σύμφωνα με τη μελέτη.
Αυτές είναι, λοιπόν, οι χώρες με τις μεγαλύτερες στρατιωτικές δαπάνες στον κόσμο το 2018.
