Ο κόσμος σήμερα κατακλύζεται από αμέτρητες ένοπλες συγκρούσεις.
Στις 8 Μαΐου 2021 συμπληρώθηκαν 76 χρόνια από το τέλος του Δεύτερου Παγκόσμιου Πολέμου στην Ευρώπη. Ωστόσο από τότε, οι ένοπλες συγκρόυσεις ανά τον κόσμο δεν έχουν σταματήσει.
Σε απάντηση της πανδημίας του κορωνοϊού, ο Γενικός Γραμματέας του ΟΗΕ Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες είχε απευθύνει έκκληση για άμεση παγκόσμια κατάπαυση του πυρός, λέγοντας τον Μάρτιο του 2020: «Ο κόσμος μας αντιμετωπίζει έναν κοινό εχθρό: τον COVID-19. Ο ιός δεν κοιτάζει εθνικότητα ή πίστη. Επιτίθεται σε όλους ανελέητα. Ένοπλες συγκρούσεις μαίνονται σε όλο τον κόσμο».
Όπως δείχνει η συλλογή δεδομένων από το Project Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED), ένα μεγάλο μέρος του πλανήτη εξακολουθεί να βρίσκεται υπό κάποια μορφή σύγκρουσης.
