Κάθε μέρα χιλιάδες άνθρωποι ρισκάρουν τη ζωή τους για να ταξιδέψουν προς ένα καλύτερο μέλλον. Όμως η Μεσόγειος είναι γεμάτη κινδύνους...
Οι έρευνες για το τραγικό ναυάγιο ανοιχτά της Πύλου συνεχίζονται, με όλα τα βλέμματα του δυτικού κόσμου να στρέφονται και πάλι στο “καυτό” θέμα του μεταναστευτικού. Μέχρι στιγμής γνωρίζουμε ότι τουλάχιστον 78 άνθρωποι ότι πνίγηκαν στη Μεσόγειο μετά την ανατροπή ενός υπερπληθυσμένου αλιευτικού σκάφους στα ανοικτά των ελληνικών ακτών. Περίπου 750 μετανάστες πιστεύεται ότι επέβαιναν στο μοιραίο σκάφος, ενώ εκατοντάδες εξακολουθούν να αγνοούνται, με τις αρχές να αναφέρουν ότι διασώθηκαν μόλις 104.
Το περιστατικό υπογραμμίζει πόσο επικίνδυνη είναι η διάσχιση της Μεσογείου Θάλασσας για τους μετανάστες, οι οποίοι συχνά αναγκάζονται να ταξιδεύουν με υπερφορτωμένα σκάφη χωρίς εξοπλισμό και προμήθειες, ενώ είναι ευάλωτοι σε οποιαδήποτε κακοκαιρία ή άλλα περιστατικά κατά το ταξίδι τους. Πριν από την πιο πρόσφατη τραγωδία, ο ιστότοπος του Διεθνούς Οργανισμού Μετανάστευσης για τους Αγνοούμενους Μετανάστες μέτρησε 1.166 μετανάστες που είχαν πεθάνει ή εξαφανιστεί στη Μεσόγειο το 2023 (μέχρι τις 9 Ιουνίου).
